Extract: As far back as I can recall, there was never a time when I dreamt of being anything other than a healthcare professional. While other children my age dreamt of being firemen, policeman or, quite simply and unrealistically, superheroes, I want to be a healer. From my childish perspective, healers were the ultimate superheroes; they healed the sick, made those who felt bad feel good and, quite fascinatingly, concocted curative magical potions – medicines. There is no doubt that my tendencies were influenced, possibly even deliberately shaped, by my parents, one a family doctor and the other a pharmacist. While I always knew that I wanted to be a healthcare professional, it was not until my college years that I realized that pharmaceutical studies were where my true passion and interest lay. Several factors influenced this decision.

Extract: A life without passion, without interests and ambitions, is a life not worth living. It is our passions which feed our ambitions and drive us towards the accomplishment of our goals and the fulfillment of our dreams. Indeed, my decision to enter college has been motivated by my deep interest in learning and my desire to pursue a career in business. During the course of this essay, I will clarify the extent to which my stated interest has driven me towards academic success and has shaped the very nature of my career ambitions.

Extract: When looking back upon my personal experiences, I find it very difficult to identify an instance where I confronted either personal or economic hardships. To be perfectly honest, both my familial and economic circumstances were stable. I did, however, confront challenges which bordered on hardships throughout the period of my secondary education. Briefly stated, my father is a self-made man and, in Indonesia, considered a successful entrepreneur. This has made him highly intolerant of anything other than excellence from his children and determined to provide them with an education which would allow them, not just to carry on the family business but, to take it to greater heights. His ambition for his children has often placed me in challenging positions.

Extract: Selecting a college or university is often a very difficult decision. For foreign students, who neither have the benefit of high school guidance counselors nor advisors, it is an especially complex and confusing decision. With no guidance or point of reference, it is very easy for foreign students to make the wrong decision and select a college which neither allowed them the realization of their potential nor the expression of their talent. This is precisely what happened with me and is the reason why I am seeking transfer to another college.

Extract: Deciding one’s future and choosing one’s career path are hardly easy undertakings. To a large extent, the decisions one makes regarding career and undergraduate education, shape one’s future. Therefore, many hesitate in making their decision and betray an unwillingness to commit themselves to a specific educational, hence career, path. As far as I am concerned, however, the situation is very different as there was never any doubt in my mind that I wanted to become a nurse. This decision is based on an absolute conviction in the value of the said vocation and my belief in my own abilities to excel in it. As for my decision to apply to the B.S.N. program at New Jersey University, it was based on a thorough reading of the relevant literature.

Extract: While undergraduate studies play an incontrovertibly intrinsic role in one’s intellectual development, graduate studies are fundamental to intellectual maturation and the realization of one’s career goals. Having successfully complete my graduate studies with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology, I realized that while I had received a solid ground in the former, with understanding of the complexities of the criminal mind definitely supplemented by the latter, there remained a great deal of territory to be explored.
